2007 Massachusetts Division II State Champions
With a 5-1 win over Milton High School at the Bright Sports Center at Harvard University, the Barnstable Red Raiders won the MIAA Division II Girls Ice Hockey State Championship. Barnstable becomes the first Cape Cod team in history to win a state championship in girls ice hockey. The Red Raiders jumped out to an early 2-0 lead thanks to first period goals by juniors Kristen Logan and Abby VanWormer. Those two goals were all that the Red Raiders would need. Milton scored in the first minute of the second period to make it 2-1, but Barnstable wasted no time and responded with three unanswered goals to bring the score to 5-1. Stephanie Scarpato scored two goals, and Michelle Manning added one, culminating a dominant season by Barnstable's formidable first line of Scarpato, Manning, and Katie Kirwan. Natalie Cohen stood out in net for Red Raiders and, with the championship, won her fifth career MIAA State Championship. Pivotal in Barnstable's win was its penalty kill, which was anchored by defensemen VanWormer, Claire Toffey, and Jessi Barron. The second line of Logan, Lynne Donohue, and Lisa Cunningham also contributed to the penalty kill and managed to prevent Milton's Molly Golden, one of the state's leading scorers, from rushing the puck up the ice.
